Choir Concert 3/12 & 3/13
By: Thomas Causey
A joint concert of the Macon State College Choir and the Georgia Southwestern (GASW) Choir will take place April 12 in Americus on Georgia Southwestern’s campus and April 13 at First Presbyterian Church here in Macon.
The reason the two programs want to do this joint concert is because of their many similarities. Both have the same number of singers (30 each ), and the members all have very close to the same skill-sets.
MSC Choral Director Rebecca Lanning and GASW choral director Julie Meganson will both conduct, switching between pieces.
The event will be a historical look at texts from the ordinary of the mass. It will consist of the five main movements of the mass and will start with a Gregorian Chant. Other selections will include a modern mass composed by Gyorgy Orban, a Renaissance Madrigal look, and a very modern “funky gospel” piece with a full band consisting of drums, upright bass, and other instruments.
This promises to be an exciting concert. The music selections will have something that everyone can enjoy. The program is free and open to the public, so come out and enjoy the music while supporting your school and fellow students.
